I have always been a fan of Batman. I haven't read its comics, but since I was a kid Batman has been my favorite superhero of all time...
I remember I was merely 6 or 7, maybe younger when I saw its T.V series. I don't even remember on which channel it was on, or much about it, but there are a few things I remember: Batman and Robin in their tights—those looked awesome to me at the time, but sadly not now—and I remember the Joker, Commissioner Gordon, the Batmobile, just a few vague trademarks of the series....
A few years after that I saw a movie called "Batman and Robin" on T.V. It was 2 or 3 years old at that time, and I think I must have been about 8 years old. Initially, I loved it; watching a Batman movie was all I ever dreamed of(before I discovered the other Batman movies that were already there and were better than this by many folds). I think I liked it because Arnold Schwarzenegger was in it; back then there were only a few Hollywood actors I was able to recognize and he was on top of that list. I had seen him in "Terminator", "Twins", "Predator", "Total Recall", and in "True Lies" a few years later...
A year later, I saw "Batman: The Animated Series" and it blew my mind. It was the best thing I'd ever seen on Cartoon Network, better than even "Tom and Jerry", a more commonly-loved children's show back then. I loved it and I wish I had a DVR back then so I could still have it recorded for posterity. Through this series, I came to know about Batman and his enemies. I didn't have any respect for any Batman movie at the time, maybe because none of them were made for my generation, or maybe because I liked the animated series on Cartoon Network better...hey, I was a kid, so I liked cartoons...
Then I grew up and I wasn't expected to watch cartoons anymore, so sadly, I had to let them go. It was hard... For a long time, there was no news from Batman...There was nothing...
When I was 13, I heard that a Batman movie is coming to theaters, and honestly, I came to know about this movie just a month before its release. My parents had stopped taking me to Hollywood movies by this time, so I was only able to see when by chance an acquaintance invited me to see it with him and his friend.
A few hours later, the three of us, accompanied by two of my cousins, were in the theater with popcorn in our hands. So finally I was watching a Batman movie made for my generation. That day, I had no idea who the director Christopher Nolan was, or that a movie called "Memento" even existed. Like many other people, I loved it, and I feel bad for people who have no idea about Nolan's Batman series before "The Dark Knight". Everything about this movie was classic—from the Batcave to the Batmobile, the Tumbler (to this day, it is the only vehicle I dream about), and there was Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne alias Batman. I had no idea about this Mr. Bale, and to this day, I haven't seen a single Christian Bale movie that pre-dates "Batman Begins"(the only exception being Empire of the sun which really doesn't count, as he must have been only 10 or 12 back then). Even now, he is one of my favorite actors, mostly because of the Batman series, "The Prestige" and "The Fighter"...
The movie touched a few things that I think were covered in the animated series(but I'm not sure; I was too young to remember anyway), this movie was nice and in the end they gave a hint that they will make another movie with the Joker in it, and like 90% of Batman fans, the Joker is my favorite character in the Batman series... I was happy my cousins and I all of us were excited and said we will come to watch the second part of the Movie but sadly there was no one to watch that movie with me...(Dark Knight is the first movie which I saw alone in a theater)...
In July of 2008 Dark knight came to theater for this one I was excited for months I had seen its trailer months before(It was the first trailer which I ever downloaded from the Internet) and I wasn't able to wait even for a single day... finally it was July and the Movie was released all across the country but not my town, and quite honestly I was pissed really pissed then finally after a month of no show at theaters it finally appeared in one.. so the next thing I remember my I was buying a ticket for the movie... after watching that movie I was angry... why? that theater sucked, for god's sake the Projection wasn't clear their sound system was crappy I can say my computer's sound system is better than the one in that theater.. later I saw that movie many times on T.V and on my computer(please don't ask me how :P)
Then came the news that Nolan is making another Batman Movie I was happy and sad that day cause it was also mentioned in that article that this one is going to be the last Batman movie by Nolan, I wasn't much happy about the news but after realizing that I will be able to see Batman again on the Big screen excited me...
It is releasing on 20th July of 2012, its been 7 years since I saw Batman Begins and about 14-15 years since I saw Batman's T.V series for the first time... Yes I am excited and emotional at the same time...
Nolan better brings his A-game cause I know we won't be able to see Batman for a long time on the Big screen unless Warner Brother finally achieves their dream of making a Justice League Movie.
